DUST CYCLONES
ENVIROVENT is an integrated solutions provider to the global mining, bulk material handling, mineral processing and beneficiation industries, offering innovative technological solutions as well as process and commodity knowledge along the industry value chains. The services range from system design, through to manufacture, turnkey installations and after-sales service, with expertise provided over a full range of environmental control and pneumatic conveying systems.
ENVIROVENT’s in-house dust cyclone range for air pollution control is comprehensive, enabling selection of the most cost-effective solution to any dust-control, air-cleaning or product-recovery problem, large or small. Systems are designed, manufactured and supplied as turnkey installation. In-house maintenance teams, specialised technicians and engineers are locally based, including after-sales service.
DUST CYCLONES
The Dust Cyclone is a device without moving parts which separates dust particles from a gas stream by utilizing the effects of centrifugal forces imparted on the gas and dust mixture passing through the dust cyclone. Dust cyclones are commonly employed as product recovery or separation devices in material handling and process systems to handle loose solids in a diverse range from sawdust, chemicals, iron oxide, grains to flue dust.
DUST CYCLONE THEORY
The gas stream enters the dust cyclone body tangentially and the centrifugal force imparted on the gas and dust mixture causes the dust to separate from the gas stream and settle into the collecting hopper at the bottom, whilst at the same time the clean gas exists the dust cyclone body through the thimble and into the outlet manifold.
The collected dust in the hopper is then discharged for further processing via a Rotary Vane Feeder or Double Flap Valve.
To avoid overfilling of the collecting hopper and dust build-up inside the dust cyclone body, level switches are installed in the hopper and once activated, the process would have to be stopped or the dirty gas be diverted to by-pass the dust cyclone to allow the collecting hopper to clear the built-up dust.
Generally, medium efficiency cyclones will provide good recovery efficiencies in the particle size range greater than 10 micron and will collect practically 100% of particles greater than 20 micron. These efficiencies relate to products with specific gravity of 2.
There are many industrial processes where dust cyclones are the only satisfactory process solution, particularly when working in sealed processes at high temperatures and pressures.
They can be used in many applications for the removal of very high concentrations of dust particles from a gas stream before final cleaning by a more sophisticated plant equipment.
DUST CYCLONE PRODUCTS
ENVIROVENT’s model 700 Dust Cyclone, can be used with an arrangement of up to 6 Dust Cyclones and offers up to 99% dust collection efficiency @ 1,5 kPa pressure loss. It is ideally suited for coarse particle dust collection, dry product recovery prior wet collection or primary collector to reduce dust load to secondary collector.
